Seraphiel

le groupe

U-Zine

Fight !

Nous te remercions pour les questions!

Ladies and Gentlemen! Oyez oyez!

Could you introduce us the story and the members of Seraphiel ?

What we have here is a six-piece enthusiastic, experienced and skilled group of musicians with a vision of making and performing awesome music.
The band has been around for quite a while as the roots go back to something like 2005. The whole thing started as a beer drinking project. Some music was played on the side. By time a bunch of songs were written and some even recorded.
The real first steps were taken by the recording and releasing of the EP Opposing Existence, which was a CD of four rocking tunes. Pretty fast tunes they were, too.
Next step was taken when the excess doodling in rehearsals and the fact that the band wasn’t going anywhere were taken into treatment. The band took a more organised view in the making and started to work on things with a more serious attitude. By this time there were some recordings done for the next release, Euphory Amplified.
Latest fundamental change in the band has been the change of vocalist. The band got into contact with an awesome vocalist, who has renewed the sound and taking it to a more professional level.
And now due to the release of Euphory Amplified, the band is ready to rock out. Big time.
The oldest members in the current line-up, from the prehistorical age, are Pekka, Vili and Pertti. Other people have joined the band later: first Samuli at around 2007, then Jarmo in 2008 or so and Vesa in the beginning of 2011.

I guess Euphory Amplified has been released only in free download, why this choice ? You expect to spread more your music by this way ?

We are planning to release this EP as a physical copy, too. There still are some minor adjustments to make etc, but it will be available soon enough!
We are, on the other hand, focusing on the web release, as it definitely is an easier way to get music around.

And so, what are the results ? Have you got some reviews and are they good ?

So far we’ve reached people all the way from Mexico, Brazil, Canada, Israel, Malaysia and Japan.. So it’s a good start! Not too many know us yet, though, but it will be changed in the future. We haven’t really started up our promotion engine in full gear yet, so there aren’t much reviews made. This will be changed also.

I want to talk about the artwork. Who did it and what does it mean ?

The artwork was done by Timo Paananen (http://leevitron.deviantart.com/), who has done awesome work for us before, too.
Not sure about the idea behind it, though. We just thought it’d be awesome to have this “mascot” of ours, let him be named Sergei on this occasion, flying into a star with some cool electronic, cyborg energy wings on his back. While he’s getting closer he starts to deteriorate and whatnot. Pretty much like the myth about Icarus, though for different reasons. Obviously.

Your music may be seen as a mix between traditional Power Metal and Modern Metal (mainly Melodeath). Could you tell us about your large influences ?

As we’re relatively young, we’ve learned about metal in it’s somewhat progressed level. Naturally the first bands we’ve been listening to have been Metallica and Iron Maiden, which somehow affects us all, I suppose. But we’ve gathered our mixture from different areas of the wide scene of metal: on one hand we’ve listened and digged a lot of bands like Decapitated and Behemoth, and on the other hand we’ve taken influences from Stratovarius and Blind Guardian. Then there are these special occasions, like Vili’s jazz-thingies and Pekka’s crush on Britney Spears and Pertti’s dubstep and trance-likings. Melodeath aspect probably comes from some influences of Children of Bodom, which really has had a huge impact on metal music when it got out, and to some of us too. When you combine all of these and loads of other musical and non-musical influences, you get a very odd mixture of metal. Maybe sometimes even unique sounding mixture.

Do you think that Power Metal needs to stop look behind it and must evolve for continuing to exist ?

There will probably always be so called traditional power metal bands, but it can be seen that the stuff evolves, like whatever things do. Evolution, or development, can be seen and heard with bands like Blind Guardian, Sonata Arctica and even Helloween. It is natural.

Basically what we’d like to see is that people would first gather knowledge about music through good bands, then broaden their views in general via learning and listening to other kind of music, add that stuff to the mix and finally create something hopefully unique and special. Sweep some of the soul and one’s own perceptions into the music!
It’s not about a certain style of music, it’s about good music and music that creates emotions.

But yeah! There has been evolution in power metal, when you look at the different sub-genres. So it has happened and it needs to happen. Not sure if this is the right way to think about the topic, because genres are always tricky, as their definitions are what they are.. But, okay. If you think about bands like Helloween, Sonata Arctica, Symphony X, Pagan’s Mind, Sabaton, Blind Guardian, Edguy and so on, you see there’s a pretty broad range of styles included. And probably the best genre to describe these bands would be power metal, though some bands are progressive power metal and some are something else. And then there are bands like Mutiny Within and Tracedawn, which might in some sense have something to do with power metal. They have given a different edge to power metal and taken it further.

You have a new EP and a new site. Is Seraphiel's adventure really launched? Have you planned any projects for the future? Have you thought about recording your first album? If yes, to which direction you want to go?

Yes! We have set our foot on the road, now we need to go to Rivendell to get some magic apples so we can start the big journey! Wait. Nevermind.

Oh, yes. We have a couple of projects going on regarding new music and promoting us. No sleeping any longer, now it’s time for action!
We have given a thought to recording an album, but it’s time is somewhere in the future. First things first: gigs, new songs, promotion..

It's been a while since the last time you were on stage, will you restart to play live with Seraphiel ?

Hell yeah! We’ve been practicing these songs for quite a while now, so it is indeed time to restart the live action. We have contacted some gig places and planned this a bit, so we shall see what come out of it.

Prepare to see lots of hair in the air, surrounded by lots of notes and high pitched screams when we’re on stage!

Thank you very much for your time. If you have something more to say it's the moment. Fight!

We thank you for the questions!

Ladies and gentlemen! Hear ye!
